- Annual benefit maximums of $1,000–$1,500 — barely covers a single crown
- 50% coinsurance on major procedures even after the waiting period
- Implants are typically excluded or capped at minimal coverage
For a veteran needing multiple implants or full-arch restoration, VADIP's annual benefit wouldn't cover 10% of the cost. This isn't insurance — it's a discount card with a 9-month delay.
The Colombia Dental Alternative
Colombian dental clinics — particularly in Medellin and Bogota — serve thousands of international patients annually for implants, veneers, crowns, and full-mouth rehabilitation. They use the same implant systems (Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Neodent) and the same ceramic/zirconia materials as top US dental practices.
The cost difference isn't about quality — it's about economics. Colombian facility costs, lab fees, and overhead are a fraction of US levels. A Straumann implant is the same implant regardless of the country it's placed in.
